Thank you
for your interest in becoming an Assistant Referee (aka linesman
or AR for short). We definitely welcome new ARs! We schedule our
ARs in August for the Fall season and in March for the Spring season.
If you are certified by then or are signed up for a certification
class, e-mail us at AssistantReferees@PegasusSoccerClub.org
and we can add you to our list.
You must be certified before you can be an AR. To get certified,
you need to attain either a Grade 12 or a Grade 8 referee license.
(This has nothing to do with school grades.) A Grade 12 license
certifies you as an Assistant Referee only and is a 1-day course
which must be repeated every year to maintain certification. A Grade
8 license certifies you to be a Center Referee and allows you not
only to be a linesperson (AR) but also to work as a referee for
the various leagues in the area. Grade 8 is a 2-day course with
a 1-day recertification each year.
Access this web site for more official information and a list of
clinics that are currently available: http://www.illinoisyouthsoccer.org/referees.html.
Click on the link to Referee Clinics and scroll down to see the
list. If there are no Grade 12 clinics being offered nearby, keep
checking back to this site (daily). Once you find a class you can
attend, sign up quickly as they tend to fill up.
A little more about Grade 12 and Grade 8…
Each club (like the Pegasus Soccer Club) pays ARs (Grade 12 - linesmen)
and each club sets the fee and other guidelines. We currently have
a sliding pay scale based on the age of the team being lined. Pay
ranges from $15/game up to $25/game. All new ARs start with younger
games (i.e. less pay). You have to build your confidence and your
skill in order to AR for the older games (like U15 and up). Also,
Pegasus will reimburse you for your initial certification course
and provide you with a uniform if you AR at least 4 games your first
season.
Center referees (Grade 8 and up) are scheduled by Referee Assignors
who work for the various leagues (such as YSSL and IWSL). If you
choose to get your Grade 8, we can give you some advice on how to
go about getting scheduled to referee games. We don’t schedule
or pay the center refs, but we can tell you who to talk to. Pay
for center refs depends on the league and the age of the game, but
our youth referees tend to make $25 - $30 per game. Refereeing in
tournaments can be quite lucrative!
If you need more information, please e-mail the address above.
And remember to notify us (same address) if you are certified and
wish to get into our schedule of ARs.
