The Pegasus Soccer Club is excited to be hosting
the first-ever and much-anticipated “Pegasus/Urban Initiatives
Cross-Town Classic” on Friday, Oct. 16th from 3:45 to 5:30pm
at Brickyards.
Around 80 boys & girls in grades 2 through
5 from the Urban Initiatives
soccer-based enrichment program in Chicago will be bused from
the city to Deerfield to play soccer and enjoy refreshments and
camaraderie with our Pegasus players.
This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for everyone
in your family. Younger players can participate in the exhibition
games. Older players and coaches can help referee, coach and participate
on the sidelines. Parents can volunteer to help with logistics.
What is Urban Initiatives?
Started in 2002, this inner city program aims to boost academic
performance, wellness and long-term success for children from
underserved communities. Currently 330 kids at eleven schools
participate, with the hope of adding more in the future.
This before and after-school soccer program provides quality instruction,
nutritious snacks, a disciplined and structured team environment,
and coordinated communication between teachers, parents and coaches,
while reinforcing positive behavior and healthy habits. Kids must
“Work to Play”, meaning they must keep up their in-school
performance in order to participate.
The result? These kids are making honor roll, improving attendance,
performing better in class and living a healthier lifestyle. You
can read more about the fantastic work this non-profit group does
at www.urbaninitiatives.org.
